“Stuck overnight in Amsterdam with the kids, I almost let it go. I sent my booking and the rebooking emails, waited it out, and a few months later KLM paid for all four of us. On my side it was pretty simple. Just the documents and some patience.”
I booked KLM from Marseille to Tampa for a family trip to Florida, connecting in Amsterdam. The first flight ran late, and when we got to the gate, the Tampa flight had already left.
They rebooked us for the next morning. My partner, our two kids, and I spent the night in the terminal, missed a prepaid hotel night in Tampa, and got a generic apology with no mention of EU261.
I sent the booking for all four of us. They checked how long we were delayed and what the long-haul route was worth, then filed for everyone on the ticket.
KLM said no at first. They went back with everything I'd sent. The airline eventually paid $3,594.32 total. The updates along the way are what kept me from dropping it.
